United Nigeria Aircraft with 50 Passengers Skids Off Runway at Lagos Airport


A United Nigeria Airlines Embraer 145 aircraft with registration number 5N-BWW with 50 passengers on board has skidded off the runway 18L at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 (MMA2) in Lagos.

The aircraft was flying in from the airport in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, when the incident happened.

A statement by the Head, Corporate Communications United Airlines, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu disclosed that the aircraft landed safely, but was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway.

According to the statement, all the passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the arrival hall alongside their luggage.

Uchegbu stated that officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are at the scene of the incident and alongside UNA engineers are working to move the aircraft to the hanger.


The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and National Safety Investigation Board (NSIB) have also been duly noticed and are on the scene.

The airline further said that it is collaborating fully with the authorities.

It reassured the public that it maintains strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritise passenger safety at all times.
