The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed all affiliate unions within the Federal Capital Territory Administration to escalate the ongoing strike embarked on by the FCT workers under the aegis of the Joint Unions Action Congress (JUAC).
A statement issued by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, says the indefinite strike is necessary as a result of gross administrative impunity and a systematic violation of the fundamental rights of workers by the FCTA management and its political leadership.
The statement directed all workers to converge en masse on the National Industrial Court on Monday, where the matter would be heard.
Comrade Ajaero noted that the illegal withholding of five months’ wage award and promotion arrears was a denial of workers’ legitimate earnings, a direct attack on their livelihoods, and a violation of the constitutional guarantee of remuneration.
The statement says the non-remittance of pension contributions since May 2025 and National Housing Fund deductions is an economic sabotage against both active and retired workers.
“This is capital accumulation by dispossession, plain and simple. It is unacceptable.Your struggle is our struggle. Your victory will be our victory. No retreat, no surrender! Workers united can never be defeated.
President NLC said the intimidation of staff, ban on phone usage and incarceration of workers were designed to cripple workers’ solidarity.
The statement urges all workers to commence daily prayer and solidarity sessions at designated venues across the FCT until demands are met.
