
The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari which occurred on 13th July, 2025 in London
In a statement released by the Head of Media for the union, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Bunu expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the former President, describing him as a man of absolute discipline and incorruptible character, whose leadership was marked by a strong commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria.
Bunu lauded Buhari’s legacy as a visionary and transparent leader who remained dedicated to national service throughout his life.
He further noted that although Buhari, like every human being, had his flaws, his intentions and actions were often driven by a sincere desire to see Nigeria thrive as a united and indivisible nation.
The union leader urged Nigerians to join in mourning alongside the Federal Government, the Government of Katsina State, and the people of Daura, Buhari’s hometown during this period of national grief. He also called for a befitting state burial for the late President, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Comrade Bunu concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul and strength for his family to bear the loss, expressing hope that the former President finds eternal rest in Aljannah.
