The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated ₦202.9 billion between January and December 2025, representing a 13 per cent increase over the ₦181.01 billion realised in 2024.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this while reviewing the Command’s activities for the year, noting that the figure exceeded its annual revenue target by 13 per cent. According to him, the Command achieved 113 per cent of its expected revenue, reflecting improved efficiency in revenue collection and trade monitoring.
Otunla attributed the achievement to enhanced compliance by traders, effective monitoring of import transactions, timely detection of irregularities, and deliberate efforts to block revenue leakages. He explained that these measures had strengthened accountability and boosted public confidence in the system.
He also commended the dedication and professionalism of officers and men of the Command, as well as the support received from sister security agencies, compliant importers, and licensed customs agents. He described their cooperation as critical to sustaining operational excellence and meeting set targets.
The Comptroller reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous engagement with stakeholders, stressing that these principles remain central to the Nigeria Customs Service’s mandate of trade facilitation and revenue generation.
