Kano/Jigawa Customs, APM Terminals Strengthen Ties to Boost Trade Facilitation   

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has strengthened its partnership with APM Terminals following a courtesy visit by the company’s Managing Director, Kamal Rashad, to the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tahir Balarabe who disclosed this in a press release, the visit was primarily aimed at introducing the leadership of APM Terminals and discussing areas of mutual interest to enhance trade facilitation, operational efficiency and compliance in cargo handling and clearance processes.

Receiving the delegation, the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Usman Adamu, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the terminal operator to maximize its operational potential.

Adamu noted that APM Terminals remains one of the largest terminals in Kano in terms of capacity and cargo throughput, adding that the Command is committed to supporting the terminal, particularly in the area of export development.

He further stated that with its strong compliance record, APM Terminals has the capacity to emerge as a leading revenue contributor within the Kano area.

 

In his remarks, Rashad thanked the Command for its continued support and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding operations at its Kano facility. He disclosed that his leadership oversight covers both the Kano terminal and the Apapa operations.

According to him, the visit was prioritised due to Kano’s significant market potential, noting that the company is determined to strengthen its operational footprint and improve service delivery in the region.

The engagement also served as a strategic platform to consolidate the existing cordial relationship between the Customs Command and APM Terminals, with both parties expressing commitment to improving compliance, enhancing trade facilitation and maximizing the operational capacity of the Kano terminal.
