Renowned investigative journalist David Hundeyin has made allegations against the London-based NGO Dialogue Earth, formerly known as China Dialogue Trust, accusing it of trying to undermine the Dangote Refinery project.
According to the investigative journalist, Dialogue Earth offered him N800,000 to write an article criticising the refinery’s environmental impact and urging the Nigerian government to halt the project.
Mr Hundeyin who shared other documents on his account inline with his claims implying that the NGO is part of a broader effort by Western interests to keep Africa dependent on foreign imports and to obstruct the continent’s progress.
Similarly, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar called on Nigerians to be resolute in ensuring that no internal or external forces stall the progress of the Dangote Refinery project.
The politician stated this on his X account, emphasising the significance of the refinery in addressing the country’s energy and forex needs.
On August 9, the Dangote Refinery Project in a statement signed by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief, Branding and Communications Officer, acknowledged receipt of NUPRC’s statement for the allocation of 29 million barrels of crude oil but noted that the cargoes were yet to be delivered.
“Aside from the term supply we bilaterally negotiated with NNPC, so far NUPRC has only facilitated the purchase of one crude cargo from a domestic producer. The rest of the cargoes we have processed were purchased from international traders.
All we are asking for, is for refineries in Nigeria to buy crude directly from the companies that produce it in Nigeria rather than from international middlemen”, the statement reads in part.
