Edo Police Arrests Suspected Cultists, Recovers Arms, Ammunition


The Edo State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists at Okabere Community, Upper Sakponba road in Benin City.

They were arrested following information that some cult members had planned to converge in an undisclosed location in the State to forcefully initiate innocent citizens.

The suspects are: Bright Amadin aged 34, Brown Amadin 29 and Stanley Omoregie 27.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor explained that the suspects were apprehended by Operatives of Command Intelligence Rapid Response Squad.

He added that, they planned to attack another rival cult members in order to mark their anniversary.


“Immediately, the operatives commenced technical intelligence in order to foil their plans, and on May 12th at about 0230hrs, the operatives arrested three of the member cult.

They made statements and confessed to being members of a secret cult.

“Concerted effort is ongoing in arresting members at large, and sooner, the suspects would be processed to court”, Nwabuzor noted.

Some items were recovered from the suspects, including a pump- action gun, three live cartridges, and clothings with manphite insignia.
