Edo Police Arrests Former Banker for N14.9m Fraud


The Edo State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Gift Igbinosun, an ex banker, age 35, for allegedly defrauding John Nnamdi and Henry Osagieduwa, of N14.9 million in Benin City.

Addressing journalists, the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the suspect who was sacked two years ago by her employer Keystone Bank, defrauded the victims on the pretence of helping them get the new naira notes.

SP Nwabuzor added that, the suspect was arrested on July 20, by Operatives of State Intelligence Bureau, following a complaint by the victims of alleged case of impersonation, conspiracy, advance fee fraud, fraudulent conversion and stealing.

“The suspect parades herself as a staff of Keystone Bank and fraudulently obtained the sum of N7.3 million from John Nnamdi. She also paraded herself as staff of the same bank and fraudulently obtained seven million six hundred thousand naira N7.6 million from Henry Osagieduwa.

“They gave her the money with hope that she would replace them with new notes, not knowing that she was no longer working with the bank”.

Narrating her involvement in the crime, the suspect said “before now, the first complainant Nnamdi, I have given him mint currency and he would give me commission. But I couldn’t meet up any more, so I was owing him.

“While Henry, I could not give him any one, I returned N2.5 million to him remaining the balance of N5.1 million. This has been going on for some months now. I was sack by the bank about two years ago” Gift Igbinosun said.

According to the Police Spokesperson, investigation has been completed and the suspect would be charged to Court.
