The Edo/Delta Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has hosted a Stakeholders’ Engagement and One-Stop-Shop Awareness Programme to advance trade facilitation and promote investment through the deployment of modern digital tools.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Judith Kanu, in her remarks emphasised that the engagement was designed to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, enhance operational efficiency, and align with the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s transformative vision for the Service.
Comptroller Kanu noted that the One-Stop-Shop initiative represents one of the Service’s major trade facilitation tools aimed at simplifying processes, reducing bottlenecks, and promoting transparency in business transactions. She explained that the programme was in line with the CGC’s policy thrust , which focuses on strengthening the Service through consolidation, enhancing partnerships through collaboration, and embracing modernisation and technology in line with the World Customs Organization’s SAFE Framework of Standards.
Kanu recalled the service’s standards through various ICT-driven innovations such as the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), code-named B’Odogwu, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) scheme, Time Release Studies, the Digital Vehicle Verification System (CVMS), and now the One-Stop-Shop platform. She disclosed that the new system, developed in collaboration with the Trade Management Platform (TMP) and local experts offers a secure and transparent process for verifying vehicle documents and assessing compliance, accessible to all Nigerians.
The Area Controller stated that the awareness forum was organised to sensitise officers and stakeholders on how to effectively utilise the One-Stop-Shop mechanism for trade facilitation and compliance enhancement. She commended the Tariff and Trade Department of Customs Headquarters for supporting the programme with technical expertise and capacity-building resources.
Reiterating the Service’s emphasis on continuous training and knowledge acquisition, Comptroller Kanu urged participants to take full advantage of the session to enhance their professional competence.
