The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted large consignments of illicits drugs including cannabis indica,prohibited codein and other illicit drugs from Canada and India
Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi who addressed the press in Lagos on Friday disclosed that beyond revenue loss, some port operators and officers of the service are suspected to be involved in the illegal drug imports
Adeniyi who described the seizures as a warning to those involved in the unlawful acts, said the service will ensure the dismantling of the network of people involved while also promising to apply the heaviest sanction against customs officers found culpable
According to the CGC, a breakdown of the drugs include 3 plastic drums of cannabis indica, 46 bags of cannabis indica , 877 packs
82 cartons of other other drugs valued .
He said intelligence indicated that a lot of terminals were involved in the customs findings and that there are abuse of procedures involving customs officers.
According to Adeniyi, the importer of the drugs gave two fake addresses which raised customs curiosity leading to the discovery
He commended the Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Port, Comptroller Dera Nnadi for the seizures which according to him is a fallout of dedication and hardwork.
