The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated a revenue record of ₦2,400,945,715,872 between January and October 2025. This performance does not only surpasses the ₦264 billion recorded in October 2024 but also exceeds the Command’s total revenue for the entire year of 2024, two months ahead of schedule.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Tunde Ayagbalo, on 3rd November 2025 .
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba said the achievement underscores the Command’s enhanced capacity to handle increased trade volumes efficiently while aligning with the revenue generation and trade facilitation objectives of the service.
Oshoba disclosed that the Command is fully prepared for the commencement of a Drive-Through Scanning regime, capable of processing an average of 150 containers per hour directly from the quayside. He described the initiative as “revolutionary in the history of port operations across West Africa,” noting that it would significantly boost efficiency and reduce cargo clearance time.
He further explained that officers and men of the Command have undergone specialised in-house training to enhance performance and readiness, particularly following the recent promotion of new Deputy and Assistant Comptrollers. The initiative, he said, is in line with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s directive to strengthen professionalism and modernize customs operations.
Highlighting other ongoing reforms, Oshoba said the Command continues to deploy key trade facilitation tools, including the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) platform, which harmonizes customs procedures for seamless cargo clearance. He emphasised that while Apapa Command remains committed to promoting legitimate trade, it also maintains a firm stance against revenue leakages through the use of Demand Notices (DN) and strict monitoring of Harmonised System (HS) Codes to prevent duty evasion.
In a show of proactive leadership, Oshoba revealed that he has embarked on unannounced visits to sections of the Apapa port access roads to engage truckers, freight forwarders, and licensed customs agents. The move, he said, aims to foster cooperation with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the timely evacuation of cleared consignments, thereby improving examination, scanning, and overall trade flow.
Reaffirming his commitment to sustaining the Command’s current momentum, Oshoba called for stronger collaboration among all port stakeholders, stressing that synergy remains crucial to maintaining the Command’s record breaking performance.
