Adeleke Alleges Plot by EFCC to Freeze Osun Government Accounts Ahead of Poll

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze all bank accounts belonging to the Osun State Government and those of top government officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday evening in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.

The governor described the alleged move as an attempt to paralyse government activities in the days leading to the election.

According to the statement, Adeleke said he had received credible reports indicating that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to freeze the accounts of the state government as well as those of senior government functionaries.

He argued that if the reported plan is carried out, it would amount to the height of lawlessness, insisting that there is no legal basis for such an action.

Adeleke maintained that the EFCC lacks the legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government, stressing that there is no justification for any move to restrict the state’s access to its funds.

The governor further alleged that the planned action is politically motivated and designed to disrupt governance and hinder the operations of his administration ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15.
