The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring ways to integrate meteorological knowledge, weather and climate services into military training and operational planning to support informed decision-making.

The initiative was discussed when the Academy Provost of the NDA, Professor BJ. Ajibuah, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Discussions between both institutions also focused on specialised training, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange to strengthen the technical capacity of their personnel.

The proposed collaboration is expected to provide opportunities for military personnel to leverage meteorological expertise in planning and decision-making, particularly where weather and climate conditions are relevant to operational activities.

Both institutions also considered establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a formal framework for sustained cooperation, identify priority areas and facilitate mutually beneficial initiatives.

The partnership reflects efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration and apply meteorological knowledge to national security, professional capacity development and Nigeria’s broader development objectives.
