Comptroller Muazu Assumes Office as 33rd CAC Apapa Port, Promises Building on Predecessor’s Achievements
Comptroller Murtala Muazu has assumed office at the nation’s premier port of Apapa as the 33rd Customs Area Controller with a promise to build on the gains of his predecessor in promoting legitimate trade in Apapa without compromising national economic interest and security
Comptroller Muazu said this shortly after taking over from Emmanuel Oshoba, who retired recently after 35 years in service.
According to the new Controller,the gains recorded in revenue generation, compliance and trade facilitation under Oshoba are worthy of emulation. He described the Apapa Port as strategic to the nation’s economic growth and sustenance
While commending his predecessor’s feats, Muazu also promised to match and surpass the records. He added that his leadership of the command will promote the Comptroller General of Customs policy thrust of consolidation, collaboration and Innovation.
For revenue generation, he said the command will follow all due process as contained policy documents, common external tarrif while ensuring that no consignment is delayed after being found compliant in the clearing proces
Muazu also promised to promote a Knowledge driven command ensuring sustainable human capital development to promote professionalism among officers and men.
An alumnus of the Bayero University Kano and University of Lagos where he bagged Bachelor and Masters degrees respectively, Muazu was promoted to the rank of Comptroller of Customs in late 2025 following a leadership retreat and strategic promotions approved by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
He has represented the Service on strategic economic initiatives at local and international fora , vast in various aspects of customs operations and has served in Area 2 Command in Onne, Ports Terminal Multi services Limited (PTML) in Lagos, and other areas including the Customs headquarters
