FAAN, Security Agencies Arrest Four Suspected Bandits Near Akure Airport  

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the arrest of four suspected bandits within the vicinity of Akure Airport in Akure, Ondo State, following a joint security operation involving aviation and local security agencies.

According to a press release issued by the FAAN Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, the suspects were apprehended on 14th March, 2026 after security officials received a distress alert that suspicious individuals had been sighted behind the airport perimeter towards the Eleyewo community.

 

In response to the alert, security personnel comprising FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and other local security outfits launched a coordinated search operation in the area.

During the operation, some of the individuals reportedly attempted to flee, but four suspects were eventually arrested by the joint security team.

 

The suspects have since been handed over to the police Area Command for further interrogation and investigation.

 

FAAN commended the swift collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, the police and local security groups, including Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) and community vigilantes, whose joint efforts led to the arrest.

The authority noted that the incident underscores the importance of strengthening airport perimeter protection across the country.

 

According to FAAN, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has accelerated the provision of modern perimeter fencing and enhanced security infrastructure at airports nationwide.

 

FAAN added that work on the security upgrade is already being implemented in phases to ensure airports under its management are better protected against unlawful access and other security threats.

The authority also reassured the travelling public and airport host communities of its continued commitment to maintaining safety and security at airport facilities across the country.
