The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft (NNS BEECROFT) has intercepted five bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing approximately 500 kilograms and handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos.
The illicit consignment was seized on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, when the Quick Response Team of NNS Beecroft intercepted a van suspected of transporting illegal substances around the Abule Osun area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State. The official handover ceremony took place on February 20, 2026, at the NNS Beecroft premises in Apapa.
Speaking during the handover, the Commander of NNS Beecroft, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the successful interception reflects the Nigerian Navy’s sustained efforts to curb criminal activities within the nation’s maritime domain.

He stated that his agenda is to reposition NNS Beecroft to effectively fulfill its mandate of securing the waterways in and around Lagos State. Commodore Adams-Aliu noted that marine crimes often originate and end on land, stressing that any attempt by criminal elements, including those from neighboring countries, to exploit Nigeria’s waterways will not be tolerated.
He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with relevant security agencies to secure Nigeria’s coastal corridors.
The seized narcotics were formally handed over to the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, for further investigation and necessary action.
