The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded remarkable operational achievements, with seizures valued at Two Billion, Seven Hundred and One Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty-Eight Naira (₦2,701,762,558.00) and revenue generation exceeding Eighty-Six Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven Million, Five Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand, Eighty-One Naira (₦86,297,581,081) in 2025.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing for the year 2026 held in Ibadan.
Adewole explained that within one month of his assumption of duty, the Command intercepted smuggled goods with a cumulative Duty Paid Value of Two Billion, Seven Hundred and One Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty-Eight Naira (₦2,701,762,558). The seizures were recorded through credible intelligence gathering, sustained patrols, and coordinated enforcement operations across major flashpoints within the Command’s area of responsibility.
According to him, items intercepted include 2,234 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 1,112 pieces of used tyres, 562 kegs of premium motor spirit, 124 bales of used clothes, 42 sacks of used shoes, 110 cartons of foreign spaghetti, and 107 cartons of pharmaceutical products.
Other seized items include 37 wraps of cannabis sativa, 15 bottles of codeine syrup, 10 packs of tramadol (250mg), and 150 used compressors. The Command also impounded several “tokunbo” vehicles and means of conveyance used in smuggling activities.
In the area of revenue generation, Adewole revealed that the Command generated ₦8,374,471,941 in December 2025 alone.
He further disclosed that the Command surpassed its annual revenue target for 2025 by generating Eighty-Six Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven Million, Five Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand, Eighty-One Naira (₦86,297,581,081), exceeding the target by ₦13,135,424,793.29, representing a 15.22 per cent increase.
According to Adewole, the impressive performance reflects improved compliance by traders, enhanced monitoring mechanisms, and the commitment of officers and men of the Command to lawful trade facilitation.
Reaffirming the Command’s zero tolerance stance against smuggling and economic sabotage, the Acting Controller stated that the Command would continue to strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders to protect the national economy.
He warned smugglers and other unpatriotic elements to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the Command would not relent in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.
Adewole expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his consistent support, as well as to stakeholders and the media for their cooperation.
He also commended the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and sustained support, assuring Nigerians of the Command’s continued commitment to professionalism and efficiency.
