The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has pledged to collaborate with the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF) ahead of the forthcoming African International Wrestling Championship.
In a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs , Oscar Ivara, on October 7, 2025, it was disclosed that the leadership of the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation, led by its National President, Chief John Uche, paid a courtesy visit to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, on 7th October, 2025.
Chief Uche informed the CAC that the African International Wrestling Championship is scheduled to hold from October 18 to 19, 2025, at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State. The event is expected to attract wrestling legends and emerging talents from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African nations. He explained that the championship aims not only to showcase Nigeria’s wrestling prowess on the global stage but also to empower over 100 young Nigerians through grassroots sports initiatives.
According to the NPWF President, the Federation’s broader goal is to engage the youth meaningfully through sports, reduce unemployment and restiveness, and promote social development.
In his response, Comptroller Onyeka lauded the Federation’s vision and commended its efforts to revive and promote indigenous sports. He described the collaboration as a reflection of the Customs Service’s support for national development beyond its core mandate of revenue generation and border management. He reaffirmed that under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi , the Service remains committed to initiatives that foster youth development, capacity building, and social inclusion through sports.
He noted that the Service has consistently partnered with organisations dedicated to community development and would continue to support initiatives that contribute positively to the nation’s progress.
The highlight of the visit was the unveiling of the championship trophy and the presentation of an award of excellence to Comptroller Onyeka by the NPWF leadership in recognition of the Command’s partnership and support for the upcoming tournament.
