The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over seized 45 bags of cannabis sativa weighing approximately 1,575 kilograms to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command, for further investigation and prosecution.
The seizure was made on July 4, 2025, when the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted two wooden boats suspected of transporting illegal substances around the Takwa Bay and Ilesha Beach axis of Lagos.
At the handover ceremony held in Lagos, Executive Officer of NNS BEECROFT, Captain Idongesit Udoessien who represented the Commander, Commodore Paul P. Nimmyel described the operation as part of an ongoing effort by the Nigerian Navy to combat drug trafficking and other illegal maritime activities under the leadership of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla.
He said that the suspects fled the scene upon sighting the patrol team, but the naval personnel successfully secured the narcotics.
He also commended the professionalism and vigilance of the naval personnel involved in the operation and urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
The confiscated cannabis was formally handed over to the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Emmanuel Morrison, who represented the NDLEA Marine Command.
Morrison thanked the Navy for its continued cooperation and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks operating within Nigeria’s waterways.
