MWUN Hosts BOAN Executives, Pledges Collaboration for Maritime Sector Growth

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of its newly elected President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, recently played host to the Executives of the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) at the Union’s Secretariat located on Osho Drive, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.

The high-level courtesy visit, led by BOAN Vice President Mr. Hyginus Chichebem Ndukwe, served a dual purpose: to formally congratulate Comrade Bunu on his landslide victory at the MWUN elections and to explore avenues for strategic collaboration between the two influential maritime bodies.

During the interactive session, Mr. Ndukwe emphasized that BOAN was seeking to foster a mutually beneficial relationship with MWUN, describing the union as a critical stakeholder with the institutional capacity to support and align with the goals of barge operators in Nigeria.

Mr. Ndukwe stated that they recognise the importance of MWUN in the maritime ecosystem and believe that a working alliance can address pressing industry challenges, while also unlocking new opportunities for growth and operational synergy.

He further reiterated BOAN’s readiness to partner with MWUN, noting that their operational framework is complementary to the Union’s objectives and overall influence in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Responding to the delegation, Comrade Francis Bunu expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit and the goodwill message extended by BOAN. He described the meeting as timely and promising, especially as the union embarks on a renewed mission to deepen its engagement with stakeholders across the industry.

The Delta State-born union leader, who is also a trained administrator, maritime expert, and seasoned sailor, assured the BOAN executives that their proposal would receive the Union’s full attention. He expressed confidence in the potential for a successful partnership that aligns with MWUN’s values of unity, industrial peace, and progressive development.
