Telecoms giant MTN has shut down all its stores and service centres across Nigeria.
Though the company has not provided a reason for the closure, in a statement, MTN, however, directed its customers to use their “digital channels” for support.
“Yello customer, please be informed that our shops nationwide will be closed today, July 30, 2024,” the statement sighted on X read.

Customers vandalise MTN office in Lagos
The closure occurred less than 24 hours after disgruntled customers vandalised MTN’s office in the Festac area of Lagos. These customers, who had their lines disconnected for failing to comply with the NIN-SIM linkage policy, had stormed the office to protest the disconnection.
Lagos State police intervened to restore order and bring the situation under control.
Over the weekend, many telecom subscribers experienced blocked phone lines due to non-compliance with NIN-SIM linkage regulations.
In response, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed telecom operators to promptly restore all lines that were blocked for failing to link National Identification Numbers (NINs) to SIM cards.
