Ogun COWA Warns on Dangers of Cybercrime, Promotes Responsible Internet Usage


Protecting the Nigerian Child from the Dangers of Online Technology” was the theme for the 2024 Children’s Day Celebration of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) Ogun 1 Command Chapter of Nigeria Customs Service at a ceremony held in Idiroko.

According to a press release issued in Ogun State, the Chairperson of the COWA Chapter, Princess Adeola Folu Ojo, supported by the Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Command, Comptroller James Ojo, celebrated International Children’s Day on 27 May 2024, with a fun-filled event at the Command premises, Idiroko.

IMG 20240529 WA0010The release signed by Hameed Bukoye Oloyede, Customs Public Relations Officer for the command said event promoted the welfare and well-being of children, raised awareness about the dangers inherent in online technology, and highlighted the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to thrive.

IMG 20240529 WA0019“The celebration featured various activities, including a children’s party, cultural dance, cutting of celebration cake, and educational sessions on child safety and development. The association also presented prizes and educational materials to the students and pupils from the Nigeria Customs Secondary and Nursery/Primary schools in Idiroko.

She commended the support of the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller James Ojo, and the Ogun 1 Command for their commitment to the welfare of children.

IMG 20240529 WA0012“Comptroller James Ojo, in his remarks, admonished the children to steer clear of cybercrime, stating that ” the trend in the world today is cybercrime, what I meant to be cybercrime is those of you who go to the internet to do a lot of things like watching unhealthy movies, copying some crimes and committing yahoo fraud. All these will not lead you anywhere but path to destruction.”

IMG 20240529 WA0017Principal of the Nigeria Customs Secondary school, Mrs Aneke Ogochukwu, while giving votes of thanks on behalf of both schools, described the children’s day celebration as unprecedented since the inception of the schools. She applauded COWA for the kind gesture and solicited more of it in the future.
