Western Marine Customs Hands Over Cannabis Sativa, 2 Suspects, Codeine to NDLEA, NAFDAC


The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday in Lagos handed over seized Cannabis Sativa and two suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as well as seized Codeine syrup to National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

IMG 20250226 WA0044Briefing newsmen at the handing over ceremony, Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Paul Bamishaye said a total of 4,973 loaves of Cannabis sativa with two suspects and 195 bottles of 300ml bottles of Codeine.

He narrated thus: “In a recent operation by one of the Command’s Patrol Team on Monday within Badagry axis, two suspects with 29 loaves of Cannabis Sativa concealed in a sack of rebagged rice were intercepted.

IMG 20250226 WA0045“Today, we formally hand over 4,973 loaves of Cannabis Sativa, two suspects and 195 bottles of 300ml codeine to NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.

“These seizures were made across the South-Western waterways, reaffirming our commitment at the Western Marine Command to securing our waterways and stopping illicit trade.

Comptroller Bamishaye however appreciated the CGC of Customs and his management team for their supports.

“My sincere appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs and the management team for providing the right equipment, welfare, and good working conditions that empower its Officers to carry out our duties effectively

To our colleagues in NDLEA, we trust this handover will aid the fight against drug abuse and illicit trade. Our message to smugglers is clear-we are vigilant, we are resolute, and we will not relent”, he said.

The NDLEA Commander , Marine Command, Emmanuel Udo while receiving the cannabis sativa thank the Customs for the good working relationship and promised to carry out more investigation and diligent prosecution of the suspects.
