We Must Prioritise, Transparency, Accountability in Our Operations – Comptroller Olomu


The Customs Area Controller (CAC), in charge of Apapa Area Command, Comptroller babatunde Olomu has charged newly promoted Deputy Comptrollers (DC’s) and Assistant Comptrollers (AC’s) to prioritise transparency and accountability in their duties.

IMG 20250217 WA0034The CAC made the remark at the command, during a training workshop with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commision (ICPC) on Thursday, 13 February 2025.

IMG 20250217 WA0032He reminded the officers of the importance of their various offices in achieving the objectives of the command and the Service. “Transparency and accountability are essential pillars that support good governance. Under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi, we will always prioritise engagement with stakeholders”, he added.

IMG 20250217 WA0033Speaking further, Comptroller Olomu noted that transparency and accountability is a fundamental principle in the Service which has helped to tackle smuggling and attain significant revenue generation objectives.

On her part, the representative of the Resident Commissioner for ICPC Lagos, Mrs. Florence Bariboloka highlighted qualities of a transparent public servant. “Some of these qualities include; messages and request at the appropriate time, proactively solving problems, not blaming or making excuses for failures, taking responsibility for actions, among others.”

The workshop ended with a reminder to adopt the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard which has been utilised in over 280 Ministries, Department, Agencies (MDAs) across the nation.

trainer emphasised that demonstrating commitment to prompt service delivery and observing the code of conduct and ethics of Customs entrenches transparency and accountability; even as she encouraged participants show humility and apologise for wrong doings.

Meanwhile, she added that recognizing and rewarding officers who distinguish themselves with good conduct also enhances transparency in the workplace.

The Assistant Commissioner, however, encouraged the Apapa Customs to adopt the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard which has been utilised in over 280 Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the nation.
