During the visit, Mr. Essien reflected on his own NYSC experience, serving in Lagos between July 1998 and June 1999, which he credited as a formative period that shaped his early professional life. He commended Mrs. Salmwang for her purposeful leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence in administering the NYSC in Lagos, noting that her team’s consistency, responsiveness, and professionalism have ensured the scheme continues to deliver value and relevance.

Mrs. Salmwang, in turn, praised Mr. Essien as “a shining example of what NYSC stands for,” acknowledging his path from a young corps member to one of Nigeria’s most accomplished voices in public speaking and performance motivation. She remarked that his story is a testament to the true spirit of the scheme nation building through service, discipline, and vision.

The meeting also served as a platform to explore new frontiers of collaboration, with Mr. Essien offering full sponsorship for NYSC Lagos senior officials to enroll in SOE’s flagship training program an intensive masterclass in public speaking, executive communication, and leadership. The exchange was sealed with a symbolic gifting, with Mr. Essien presenting his bestselling book, “Speak with Power”, and Mrs. Salmwang gifting him the NYSC Lagos journal, “Eko Corper”.
