Togo Navy Secures Oil Tanker After Attempted Piracy Attack – NIMASA

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reported that the Togo Navy has successfully secured the oil tanker MT Endo Ponente following an attempted piracy attack off the coast of Lome.

According to a press release signed by the agency’s Head of Public Relations , Osagie Edward , a Visit by the Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team from the Togo Navy boarded the vessel and confirmed that all crew members were safe, with no material damage reported onboard. The vessel is now under the custody of the Togo Navy.

NIMASA disclosed that the incident was promptly reported to the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC), Zone E, which operates under the Yaoundé Architecture for maritime security. Zone E covers Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Niger Republic.

The agency noted that the operation highlighted the effectiveness of regional cooperation. Throughout the incident, MMCC Zone F, headquartered in Accra, Ghana, maintained real-time monitoring and coordinated information sharing with relevant maritime security stakeholders.

Following confirmation of the attempted attack at the NIMASA C4i Centre in Lagos, the Special Mission Vessel DB Lagos was deployed under the Deep Blue Project.

NIMASA also confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals responsible for the attempted attack.
