President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointments of new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA, while Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi will serve as the new Director-General of the DSS.
A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, noted that Ambassador Mohammed has had a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995.
It says that he has held various roles, including serving as the head of the Nigerian mission in Libya, and has also worked in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja.
The statement also highlighted that the new DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, rose through the ranks to his previous position as Assistant Director-General. He has served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
These appointments come in the wake of the resignations of the former chiefs of the NIA and DSS.
The President expects the new security chiefs to actively work on strengthening the two intelligence agencies to achieve better results. He has urged them to leverage their experience to address the country’s security challenges through enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General of these important intelligence agencies for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
