Seafarers’ Day: Bunu Reaffirms Commitment to Seafarers’ Welfare, Urges Zero Harassment on Vessels

The President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has reaffirmed the Union’s unwavering commitment to advancing the welfare, safety, and dignity of seafarers.
Comrade Abi made this declaration on Wednesday at the ongoing Seafarers Day celebration in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He also issued a resolute call for a collective push to eliminate all forms of harassment on board ships and across maritime workplaces.
The event, which brought together seafarers, government officials, industry stakeholders, labour leaders, and international observers, is themed “My Harassment-Free Ship” ,a global campaign aimed at fostering safer, more inclusive, and respectful working environments for maritime personnel.
In his address, Comrade Abi, who hails from the Seafarers Branch of the union, described the theme as both timely and critical.
Drawing from his personal experience at sea, he spoke passionately about the struggles and sacrifices of seafarers and vowed that under his leadership, the Union will continue to champion a zero-tolerance stance on all forms of workplace abuse.
