School of Eloquence Holds Reception for Ubong Essien

The School of Eloquence, Nigeria’s premier public speaking training institution based in Lagos with a branch in Abuja, has held a welcome-back reception for its Dean, Mr. Ubong Essien, who just resumed after three years of serving as Special Adviser to the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety and Agency, NIMASA.
The reception, which had some stakeholders in the maritime industry, Prof. Pat Utomi, Director of Centre of Values in Leadership (CVL), and Dr. Larry Izamoje, Chief Executive Officer of Brilla FM, in attendance, featured the unveiling of the revised version of “Speak With Power”, a 176 page hardcover book authored by Essien.
Essien described his three-year experience in NIMASA as one task he never saw coming, which has broadened his view about workplace experiences, giving him a perfect balance of public and private sector work environments.

The Dean of the School of Eloquence added that his NIMASA experience allowed him to interact with many stakeholders who made invaluable contributions to the overall success of NIMASA.
He also used the opportunity to thank his wife, Mrs. Pat Essien, and other members of the Eloquence Club, an Alumni body of the school, for holding the fort and keeping the institution going for the three-year period he worked in NIMASA.
Prof. Utomi, who is also a Professor at the Lagos Business School, commended Essien’s commitment to human capital development in the area of effective communication that makes an impact beyond just talking to impress.
While advising Nigerian leaders to take courses in public speaking, utomi said the task of nation-building could be achieved faster and easier when communication is tailored towards addressing challenges with utmost attention to feedback and reactions.
Izamoje, who reminisced on his over two decades of relationship with Essien, commended the dean for steadily focusing on his dream and growing his brand over the years.
The media entrepreneur commended Essien for impacting his students and building an alum base that further promotes the concept of fluency, persuasion, and decent use of language to strengthen human interactions for productivity in all areas of endeavour.
Princess Vicky Hastrup, Chairman of the Seaports Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), lauded Essien’s performance in NIMASA and urged him to avail himself for more service to Nigeria through the maritime industry whenever he is called upon.
Hastrup communicated the ‘NIMASA This Week’ programme shown on Channels Television weekly caught more of her attention when Essien anchored it as it featured more insightful content educating stakeholders in the maritime industry and providing relevant information.
Jean Chiazor Anishere, prominent maritime lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) commended Essien for his professionalism in discharging his duties at NIMASA. The senior lawyer also posited that a school for public speaking is essential for our youths in the journey to building leaders with values that support the good and growth of society.
Ismail Aniemu, Publisher of JournalNG commended Essien as a selfless and committed individual who discharged his task at NIMASA with timeliness as required in a newsroom environment. Aniemu added that beyond being a Certified Speaking Professional, Essien has proven to be an expert in crisis communication who joined in promoting the NIMASA brand, the blue economy concept.
