Q1:Customs Kano/Jigawa Command Generates N30.2b, Surpasses 2023 Figure by 216%

... As Comptroller Chana Warns Smugglers to Desist from Illegalities


The Kano/Jigawa Command of Nigeria Customs Service has announced a total revenue collection of N30,242,215,253.16 for the first quarter of 2024.

Customs Area Controller of the Command, Dauda Ibrahim Chana, who disclosed this in Kano on Wednesday, said the 2024 first quarter collection is 216 percent higher than the N9.5b collected by the command from January to March 2023.

A month by month breakdown of the 2024 collection, according to Comptroller Chana indicates N11,532,013,983.95 for March , N9,835,874,774.80 for February and N8, 874,326,494.41

Following the reopening of the borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, the Area Controller charged his men to be vigilant in ensuring full implementation of federal government directive by facilitating legitimate trade without compromising national security.

He further advised the officers to justify the trust and confidence reposed in them by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi by placing national interest first while discharging their duties without compromise.

While advising the traders and members of the border community to remain law abiding at all times, Comptroller Chana urged them to take advantage of the sensitization and customs community relation programmes .

The Customs Controller advised traders to shun false declaration, concealment and other unlawful practices that show tendencies to smuggle.

He further advised that they keep abreast with the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act(NCSA) 2023 and updated import and export prohibition lists, especially as they affect trading through land borders

Comptroller Chana warned smugglers to seek legitimate means of livelihood as they face the risks of being arrested with their wares seized in accordance with the law.

In March 2024,the command made seizures of 1 carton and 25 packs of Foula Condom, 8 packs of Malaria test kits, 7 cartons of foreign Spaghetti, 44 sacks of used shoes and 29 cartons of cous-cous.
