The President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo has asked the state governors to implement the N70,000 new National Minimum Wage.
He made the call at a News Conference in Abuja.
Comrade Osifo urged the governors to improve the well-being of their workers by paying the New Minimum Wage.
The Federal Government and organized labor last week agreed on N70,000 as the new national minimum wage.
Before the agreement, the state governors had insisted that they could not pay the initial N62,000 proposed by the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage set up by President Bola Tinubu.
However, after meeting with the President, the state governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum assured both Nigerians and organized labor that the ongoing negotiations would result in a better national minimum wage.
On Dangote Refinery, the TUC President said the Refinery would generate massive jobs for the unemployed youths.
He called on the federal government to address the challenges hindering the full operation of the refinery in the interest of Nigerians.
Comrade Osifo called for the removal of import duties on manufacturing inputs to boost the economy and attract investment.
