
The Customs Area Controller of Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, has paid a courtesy visit to three monarchs in Oyo State, the Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, and Olugbon of Orile-Igbon.
According to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola , the visit which took place on 8th October 2025, was part of the Command’s broader engagement strategy aimed at building stronger partnerships with traditional rulers whose influence remains critical to maintaining peace, promoting legitimate trade, and curbing smuggling activities across border communities.
In his remarks , the Area Controller acknowledged the historical significance of the traditional rulers across the Yoruba Kingdom and underscored their invaluable contribution.
He further reiterated the core mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service , revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and facilitation of legitimate trade and emphasised that collaboration with traditional authorities remains vital in achieving these objectives.
Comptroller Aliyu appealed to the monarchs to continue sensitising their subjects on the dangers of smuggling and other economic crimes, stressing that illicit trade not only undermines government revenue but also endangers public health and safety.
In response, the monarchs expressed their appreciation for the visit and pledged their continued cooperation with the NCS. They lauded Aliyu’s leadership style and his proactive approach to community engagement, describing it as a model for effective civil security relations.
