
The Customs Area Controller of Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to strengthening collaboration with traditional institutions as part of efforts to enhance community relations and promote legitimate trade within the Command
In a press release signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola on 14th October ,2025 Comptroller Gambo made this known during a familiarisation visit to the palaces of the Ataoja of Osogbo and the Oniragbiji of Iragbiji
Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Gambo, who represented the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi,expressed profound appreciation to the royal fathers for their warm reception and unwavering support for the Service. He commended their tireless efforts in maintaining peace, unity, and stability within their domains, describing them as pillars of cultural preservation and community development
He used the occasion to reiterate the core mandates of the NCS revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and facilitation of legitimate trade stressing that these functions are essential to Nigeria’s economic growth and sustainable development. He appealed for the continued cooperation of traditional rulers in enlightening their subjects about the dangers of smuggling and other illicit trade activities, which he said pose serious threats to national security and economic well being.
In their remarks, the Ataoja of Osogbo and the Oniragbiji of Iragbiji lauded the Customs Area Controller for his proactive leadership and for recognizing the importance of engaging with traditional institutions. They pledged their continued support to the Service in its efforts to curb smuggling and promote lawful trade within their territories.
The visit, according to Comptroller Gambo, is part of a broader initiative aimed at building stronger ties with stakeholders across the Oyo and Osun axis, as the Command continues to work towards achieving the Service’s renewed vision of effective border management and community driven collaboration.
