The Ogoni Welfare Association (OWA) on Sunday , strongly condemned the federal government action for declaring state of emergency in Rivers State,South South Nigeria.
OWA, an umbrella body of Ogoni indigene residents in Lagos described the action as unacceptable and a blatant disrespect for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy.
The body urged the president and National Assembly to call of the suspension and immediate restoration of the Governor elect and members of the state Assembly.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman
Ogoni welfare Association,Engr. Nwinmene Migah, condemned the pipeline explosion in Bodo and advises all indigenous people of Ogoni communities to be vigilant and protective against any action capable of tarnishing the good image and peace of Ogoni.
While appealing for calm and peaceful conduct, Owa Reaffirms their absolute support for the rule of law and true democracy.
OWA chairman also called on Rivers State to choose their leaders from Ogoni in order to experience the best leadership and service to the people.
He wondered why the state actors value the Ogonis when it is time for political campaigns and fighting but refused to see them as viable leaders when it is time to chose leaders.
“However, we advised the parties to respect the rule of law in all actions”, Migah posited
