NSW Launch to Streamline Trade, Boost Efficiency – Wale Edun

As the National Single Window (NSW) is set to officially launch on 27th March, 2026, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has reaffirmed that the NSW initiative will transform trade in Nigeria, efficiency, transparency, and economic growth by addressing the multiplicity of agencies and processes that have long delayed business operations.

Speaking to journalists at the NSW Customer Support Center in Apapa on 24th March 2026, Edun described the initiative as a game changing platform designed to simplify trade while safeguarding government revenue. He noted that although there have been multiple attempts in the past to tackle long standing distortions in the economy, this effort stands out because of the political will, determination, and capacity being applied.

Edun explained that embedding the NSW within existing legal and regulatory frameworks ensures that continuity is no longer dependent on any single administration, making the system sustainable in the long term. He added that while no system is completely immune to downtime, its design prioritises continuity and minimises disruption.

He also emphasised the broader economic impact of the NSW. Fully accounted for in the national budget through relevant agencies, the system is focused not on short term savings but on making business processes easier and more efficient. As businesses operate without delays or bottlenecks, they become more productive and competitive, which naturally increases government revenue through taxation.

In her remarks, The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole , addressed concerns about the inclusion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the challenges of digital adoption. Fakolade explained that SMEs often use technology as a way to save time and reduce costs, and the NSW is designed to leverage this strength. Deliberate support is being provided through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and its agencies, including the Export Promotion Council, to ensure awareness, onboarding, and training. Subnational sensitisation programs and engagement centers will assist users facing difficulties with the platform, ensuring SMEs are fully integrated and able to benefit from the system.

Oduwole also discussed agency integration, confirming that while each agency maintains its own system, they are connected to the National Single Window so that users submit documents once and that information is shared across the platform. Service level agreements are in place to align agencies such as Customs and the Nigerian Ports Authority, and existing trade facilitation platforms are being integrated into a central framework to improve efficiency without disrupting prior investments in technology.

Director of the National Single Window, Mr. Tola Fakolade, highlighted the practical benefits of the system for businesses and agencies alike. He explained that the NSW does not remove the roles of any agency but simplifies how businesses interact with them. Instead of moving from office to office and making multiple payments, everything is now centralised. Businesses make a single payment, and the system distributes funds to the relevant agencies, reducing physical movement, human contact, and opportunities for delays or unofficial charges.

According to Fakolade the process becomes faster, more transparent, and more efficient, while all agencies continue to fulfill their statutory responsibilities. He also noted that awareness campaigns are being extended beyond major cities through subnational outreach programs, ensuring that exporters and traders across all states, including those with limited infrastructure or access to information, can benefit from the system.
