According to a statement signed by the Corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, 6th October, 2025, the vandalism occurred between the Agege and Agbado stations. The damage discovered during a routine inspection involved the removal of signal machine cap protectors and the cutting of connection cables on Switch Point Machine No. 2.

The NRC condemned the act warning that such incidents not only compromise the safety and efficiency of train operations but also endanger the lives of passengers and railway personnel. The Corporation assured, however, that despite the incident, train operations on the Lagos–Ibadan corridor were not disrupted, as prompt technical interventions ensured the continuity of services.

The NRC emphasised that the protection of railway infrastructure is a shared responsibility and urged residents, particularly those living in communities along railway lines, to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities around rail installations as security agencies have since been notified to launch an investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
