The Lagos State Government has established that no lives were lost in the gas tanker fire that occurred at Ijora on Thursday night, contrary to some information on social media and some news websites.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, who represented the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, on the inspection of the fire disaster in the company of some cabinet members, said only vehicles were consumed in the inferno, while also commending Lagos State first responders for prompt response.
Omotosho said “there were fires in other places that people mischievously said it was a fire that occurred here. And I’ve seen some reports saying that people died here. I would like to announce to you that we haven’t lost anybody in this fire. About 11 vehicles were involved and you can see people trying to clear the place” he said
Omotosho also revealed that the state government has been carrying out palliative road repairs on the Ijora axis, despite being a federal road, considering its importance to the Lagos State economy.
“This is not a road that has been left to just deteriorate. You can see that there are stones that are put in the pot holes that you have here. That shows that the government is not neglecting this road, even at the federal level.
” As I speak with you now, a meeting is going on, and part of it is about this road. In fact, the contract to fix this road has been awarded. It’s just for the contractors to get it and move into the site.
