
The Lagos State government has frowned at what it described as arbitrary issuance of sand filling licenses to some private companies.
Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu who said this in Lagos at the Regional Ferry Safety Conference added that such licenses and the sand filling activities destroys the ecosystem and pose an existential threat to the state.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo Olu said such activities are killing the and destroying livelihood.
He also said Lagos State Government is collaborating with various stakeholders to prioritise passenger safety and reduce risks associated with water transportation in the state.
He added that the state is tacking waterways pollution through a strategic master plan for intermodal transport being implemented by Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority(LAMATA) .
While extending invitation to investors to take advantage of the Lagos waters, Governor Sanwo Olu also called for actionable strategies from the interactions at the two day conference.
