Nigeria Customs Command, Staff College Inaugurates 100 Officers for Senior, Junior Courses

The Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, on Thursday, 5 February 2026, inaugurated a combined cohort of 100 officers for its Senior Course 14 and Junior Course 24, reaffirming the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to leadership development and operational efficiency.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ahmad Makarfi Hall of the College, comprised 50 participants for the Senior Course, which will run for six months, and 50 participants for the Junior Course, scheduled for three months.

Speaking at the event, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Sulaiman Chiroma, who represented the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the Service’s transition from operational effectiveness to strategic leadership development.

DCG Chiroma said the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service has continued to invest heavily in strengthening the Command and Staff College and its programmes, noting that participation in Command courses would increasingly become a prerequisite for career advancement.

“The management of the Service, under the leadership of the Comptroller-General, has committed significant resources to the development of this College. The impact of these courses will soon reflect in officers’ career progression and overall institutional performance,” he said.

He urged participants to see their nomination as both a privilege and a responsibility, stressing that modern Customs administration requires officers who are not only operationally sound but also strategically equipped to function in a complex security and economic environment.

DCG Chiroma further charged the officers to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism, while embracing leadership founded on discipline, sound judgment and adherence to the core values of the Service.

He expressed confidence that the participants would emerge as capable leaders ready to drive institutional reforms and support national economic objectives.

In his remarks, the Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, described NCCSC as a critical hub for capacity building, leadership development and professional training for middle-level management officers of the Service.

ACG Gaura explained that the Command and Leadership Courses are structured to prepare officers for higher responsibilities through enhanced competencies in leadership, policy analysis, communication and inter-agency collaboration, which are essential for addressing emerging national and global challenges.

He urged participants to demonstrate discipline, punctuality, adaptability and commitment to learning, emphasising that academic excellence, integrity and professionalism remain non-negotiable standards within the College.

The Commandant assured participants of the support of instructors and directing staff throughout the programme, while also encouraging active participation in sports and recreational activities to promote physical fitness and mental well-being.

He warned against academic misconduct, including plagiarism and examination malpractice, reiterating the College’s zero-tolerance policy for such infractions.

ACG Gaura formally declared the courses open, congratulated the participants and expressed confidence that the training would be impactful and rewarding.
