The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a cancellation of the 25 percent penalty to be paid by owners of vehicles that were improperly imported into Nigeria along with duty payment
The announcement was contained in a press release issued in Abuja by the service spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada where a 90 day period of vehicle duty payment was made available effective from March 4,2024 to July 5, 2024
Maiwada, a Chief Superintendent of Customs wrote in the release that the cancellation followed a directive by finance minister following a 90-day window, effective from 4th March 2024 to 5th July 2024, for the regularisation of import duties on specific categories of vehicles.
He added that the move is to ease economic hardship and encourage compliance by persons affected by the directive.
He advises stakeholders, including vehicle owners, importers, and agents, to seize this opportunity to regularise import duty payments within the designated 90-day timeframe.
