NAMA Unions Call off Strike as Agency Management, Keyamo Intervene

Aviation unions operating within the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have suspended their planned indefinite strike which was initiated due to poor renumeration.

According to a letter signed by the unions, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPTRE), the strike was called off due to positive developments around the issue.

The letter stated that the new development was brought about by the management of NAMA and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

The unions had announced that NAMA will suspend their activities on Monday, August 11, over the indecision to increase their salaries .

“We were compelled by unfavorable circumstances surrounding our quest for improved renumerations to reinforce our earlier notice of withdrawal of services to the effect of issuing clear directive to commence the action on Monday 11th August, 2025.

“Due to the hard work of the management of NAMA and the intervention of the Honorable Minister of Aviation and other senior officials of the ministry, we are happy to report that there have been some positive developments around the issue. In this respect, we know the release of the ‘no objection’ letter from the budget office to the National incomes salaries and wages commission on 7th August, 2025 and the letter from the management of NAMA to its staff to the effect of its strenuous efforts and expectations to ensure payment of the new renumerations along with August salaries.

“Based on the above and in order to demonstrate good faith our unions, we have taken the decision to defer the strike actions scheduled to commence on Monday 11th August ,2025 ending the state of affairs on the subject matter at the end of August 2025.Accordingly, we enjoin all staff of NAMA to join us in keeping hopeful watch as situation unfolds.”, the letter read.
