The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects over violent protests that resulted in the destruction of two commercial banks in Sagamu on Monday morning over scarcity of the new Naira notes.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest.
“Normalcy has been restored in greater parts of Shagamu now. CP Frank Mba is personally leading police teams and some military men to tackle the situation. About 27 suspects have been arrested”, he said.
Protesters on Monday set ablaze the branches of Keystone and Union Bank in the Sagamu area of the state, as they registered their displeasure about the naira redesign policy.
Despite the pleas of the Federal and State Government for calm, following last week’s protesters, the protesters again, stormed the streets on Monday morning and made bonfires on the roads, disrupting vehicular and human movement.
