The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public warning regarding the circulation of counterfeit 12g sachets of Cowbell “Our Milk” in the Nigerian market.
This development follows an official notification by Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, the authorised manufacturer and marketing rights holder of the Cowbell brand, alerting the agency to the presence of fake products that closely mimic their milk sachets.
In a post on the agency’s official page on X @NAFDAC , the counterfeit products are deceptively packaged to resemble the authentic Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets. The imitation products bear the brand name, trademark, packaging design, and even a forged NAFDAC registration number, despite not being produced or distributed by Promasidor. The company clarified that the packaging design used in the counterfeit version was last employed in their production as far back as September 2023.
According to NAFDAC ,the authentic Cowbell sachets use laser printing for batch details, applied in the designated coding area of the sachet. In contrast, the counterfeit versions use ink printing and place the batch codes in incorrect areas. Moreover, the sealing and cutting on the genuine sachets are machine automated, ensuring a consistent finish, while the counterfeit products exhibit signs of manual sealing, which compromises the overall packaging quality.
NAFDAC has emphasized the health risks posed by these fake products and is urging the public to remain vigilant. Consumers who suspect they may have purchased the counterfeit milk are advised to report any adverse effects or irregularities to the nearest NAFDAC office. Reports can also be submitted through the agency’s official website at www.nafdac.gov.ng or via email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.
