The President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, led members of the newly elected executive council on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, at the Authority’s Marina Headquarters in Lagos on Wednesday.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Bunu said the engagement was aimed at fostering closer ties between the Union and the Ports Authority, noting that both institutions are critical partners in the advancement of Nigeria’s maritime sector. He emphasized that sustained collaboration is essential, as neither organization can operate in isolation if the industry must grow.

The MWUN leadership also used the occasion to congratulate Dr. Dantsoho on Nigeria’s recent election into Category C of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a feat achieved under the leadership of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Adegboyega Oyetola. Comrade Bunu described the achievement as a laudable milestone for the country and a significant boost for the maritime industry, applauding the federal government’s efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s global maritime standing.
Responding, Dr. Dantsoho expressed appreciation for the Union’s visit and pledged to maintain a strong working relationship with MWUN. He assured the delegation of NPA’s commitment to building a vibrant and competitive maritime hub capable of meeting both local and international expectations.
