MWUN Commiserates With Veteran Maritime Journalist, Asu Beks, Over Wife’s Demise

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has extended heartfelt condolences to renowned maritime journalist, Chief Asu Beks, following the passing of his wife, Mrs. Helen Asu Beks, whose death occurred on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

MWUN President General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, led the union’s executives to mourn with Chief Beks, describing the loss as a deep personal and institutional blow, given the veteran journalist’s longstanding relationship with the union and the maritime community at large.

Chief Asu Beks, a respected figure in the Nigerian maritime media space, is widely known for his extensive career across notable media establishments, including the defunct Concord Group of Newspapers. He is regarded as one of the industry’s foremost chroniclers and an influential voice in maritime reporting.

In his condolence message, Comrade Bunu said Mrs. Helen’s passing had deeply affected not only her family but also the MWUN, noting that the union considers Asu Beks a friend and brother. He emphasized that the union shares in his grief, acknowledging the emotional weight of the loss.
