A Max Air aircraft carrying 53 passengers and six crew members crash-landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Tuesday night after suffering a front tire burst, which led to a fire.
The Boeing 737-4D7 arriving from Lagos with registration number 5N-MBD, B733 crash-landed at 9:15 p.m. after overshooting the runway and eventually losing its front tire.
Passengers were swiftly evacuated through the emergency exit, while airport fire services responded promptly to contain the fire.
Max Air’s Kano Station Manager, Malam Bello Ramalan, apologized for the incident and expressed gratitude that all passengers and crew members were safe.
He assured that the airline followed standard crash-landing procedures and is cooperating with authorities.
The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident, with preliminary findings pointing to a tire malfunction.
