Maritime Workers Union Gives June 30 Ultimatum to CRFFN Registrar Over Unpaid Salaries


The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has given the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Mrs Chinyere Uromta June 30, 2024 ultimatum to pay the 5 month salaries and wages owed workers of the council.

In a letter dated June 20, 2024 the union asked the salaries be paid and proof of payment made available to it before June 30 in order to ease the mounting tension within the workforce.

In the letter signed by Comrade Tanko Danladi, Deputy Secretary General, the union expressed dissatisfaction over what it described as ugly development considering the economic situation of the country. It requested that the salary payment be made without further delay

According to the union, it’s members in the CRFFN have been rendered incapacitated and made unable to fulfil their responsibilities to their various families.

Sources close to the council disclosed that there are plans to seek ministerial approval for the council to use part of N930m initially meant for procurement of headquarters building to pay the salaries.

JournalNG had reported earlier that Employees of the Council requested the Acting Registrar to explain how she spent N37,116,958.16 within three and half months while the council has not been able to pay workers salaries .
