Maritime Stakeholders Chart Course for Lekki Deep Seaport as Regional Trade Hub

In a strategic push to position Lekki Deep Seaport as the leading maritime gateway for West and Central Africa, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is convening key industry stakeholders today at a high level summit in Lagos.

Hosted by the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping at the Black Diamond Hotel, the event brings together top maritime leaders, regulators, and private sector players under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities: The Lekki Deep Seaport Playbook.” The summit aims to address critical operational and policy hurdles hindering the port’s full optimisation and competitiveness.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister Oyetola is expected to outline the Federal Government’s strategic roadmap for enhancing port efficiency, investment appeal, and regional trade capacity. The Managing Director of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise, Wang Qiang, will also provide insights into the port’s operational status and readiness to scale up its role in regional trade logistics.

A robust panel session,to be moderated by former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Temisan Omatseye, will feature a cross-section of industry decision-makers. Participants include the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho; President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Sir Emenike Nwokeoji; President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Engr. Jani Ibrahim; Customs Area Controller for the Lekki Free Zone, Comptroller Olanrewaju Olumoh; and the Managing Director of CMA CGM Nigeria, Hinelder Ferreira.

Discussions are expected to produce targeted strategies to attract foreign direct investment, streamline port operations, and boost Nigeria’s maritime competitiveness.

Operational since 2023, Lekki Deep Seaport features a draught of 16.5 meters and an annual handling capacity exceeding 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
