The Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) has expressed desire to partner with the Apapa GRA Residents Association towards evolving a cleaner and sustainable environment.
Addressing members of AGRA at the association’s Annual General Meeting, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin , Managing Director of LAWMA said the Lagos State Government is unrelenting in promoting healthy environment for the good of all residents.
Gbadegesin said LAWMA has designed an intervention programme which shall be implemented with AGRA to do a deep clean of all the drainages in the GRA.
He urged all residents to maintain their surroundings to discourage illegal street trading and unauthorized mechanic workshops.
The LAWMA MD added that PSP operations will be supported to efficiently discharge waste management function with the introduction of smart bins that have 10 year life spans. The cost for the bins,according to him is ₦75,000 coming with a six months instalmental repayment plan.
On garden, the MD said green waste management is to be introduced to sustain the green nature of Apapa while advising that bagging of food waste be adopted for ease of recycling for other useful purposes.
Gbadegesin urged those generating construction, demolition and disaster waste to get in touch with LAWMA as such could block drainages
Also speaking at the event,Chairman of AGRA Adm. Austin Oyagha disclosed that Apapa Mini Water Works is being resuscitated after being redundant for 13 years.
Oyagha said the AGRA leadership has achieved improved security , better infrastructural development in form of road repairs.
Officials of Apapa Local Government at the meeting gave enlightenment on efforts to stop illegal waste disposal operators .
