Lagos Port Manager Visits MWUN, Calls for Understanding Over Impending Service Withdrawal

The Port Manager of Lagos Port Complex, Mr. Adebowale Lawal Ibrahim on Wednesday visited the headquarters of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.

Ibrahim who was received by the President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju and the national officers said his visit is to seek the continuous cooperation of the union to achieve a hitch free port operation

Speaking on the recent planned joint withdrawal of service by MWUN, National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) , Adeyanju urged the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu to disband the task force for high handedness and wanton extortion.

He said the exorbitant illegal charges being paid into private account given by the task force, even after the joint ultimatum is unfortunate.

Adeyanju described the port as a gateway to the nation’s economy that should not be distorted by the activities of persons serving their selfish interests

He commended the Port Manager for the visit and reassured that MWUN is committed to the progress of the nation especially in the port environment.
Adeyanju added that the Union’s relationship with NARTO dates back to more than 20 years and still growing.

He promised that the union will review it’s position after it’s meeting with the Nigerian Shippers Council. Adeyanju announced that the three groups hope to meet again with the shippers council when the Executive Secretary will be in attendance and representative of Lagos State Government
